Why Air Sealing Beats More Insulation Here
The Tennessee Valley is humid most of the year. Humid air carries far more heat than dry air, so every gap that lets outside air in is doing double damage: it raises the cooling load and it brings moisture with it.
Adding depth to attic insulation does nothing about that. Sealing the attic plane does. That is the order we work in, and it is why a house with average insulation and a good air seal usually beats a house with deep insulation and a leaky lid.
